Simplify your meals with Oven Baked Hamburger Steaks. Enjoy them as a budget-friendly protein with your favourite sides or use them to make quick and easy burgers. Hands-off and mess-free!
In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, and seasonings with a fork or by hand until well combined. Shape 5 equally sized beef patties, about 1 1/2 inch diameter and 1/2 inch thick.
1 lb ground beef, 1 egg, 1/4 cup bread crumbs, 1/2 tsp Italian herbs, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
Slice the onions and place them in a parchment-lined 9x13 inch baking dish. Drizzle with olive oil and add a sprinkle of salt on top.
1 tbsp olive oil, 3 red onions
Place the hamburger steaks on top of the red onions and push a little indent into the middle of the patties if you don't want them to bunch up and become too round.
Bake the ground beef steaks for 30 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
Remove them from the oven immediately and let them rest for 5 minutes for the juices to redistribute. Make beef burgers with the red onions or enjoy the steaks as a protein-rich main with your favorite sides and a rich red onion gravy.
Notes
Burger patties: For burgers, make sure the patties are nice and thin and add an indent in the middle with your thumb to prevent them from getting too round when baking. Storage: Leftover hamburger steaks can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge alongside the onions for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the cooked steaks for up to 3 months. Simply thaw and reheat them in the oven or microwave.
