Creamy Harissa Hummus With Butter Beans
Creamy, spicy, and incredibly versatile! This creamy Harissa Hummus with Butter Beans is quick and easy to make in just 5 minutes using a blender. Packed with harissa, this spicy side is perfect with grilled meats, roast vegetables, or as a spicy dip with crackers or veggie sticks.

I’m sure you have noticed that I’m into harissa right now. Similar to pesto, this butter bean hummus is packed with flavor and instantly seasons a variety of dishes – no tahini needed. I’m all for shortcuts when it comes to cooking from scratch, and homemade harissa paste is a great example of that.

Ingredients and substitutions

- Butter beans – Drain the butter beans and reserve the liquid as it will be used to adjust the consistency of the hummus. You can obviously use chickpeas for a traditional hummus as well.
- Harissa – I used homemade harissa paste but there are many high-quality store-bought options available. Just check the heat level before using. You can use other chili pastes including sambal oelek if needed.
- Spices – Ground cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper add warmth and round out the flavors.
- Lemon – Lemon juice adds freshness. You can use lime juice if needed.
- Garlic – Fresh garlic is best, but you can substitute it with 1/2 tsp of garlic powder if needed.
Key steps: harissa hummus

1. Simply add all ingredients to the blender at once.

2. This quick blender recipe makes clean-up a breeze.

3. Season to taste and garnish the butter bean dip with more harissa for extra flavor and spice.

4. Garnish with fresh parsley for extra flavor and color.
My 3 top hummus tips
- Reserve liquid: Catch the liquid from the beans to be able to adjust the consistency as needed.
- Blend well: The longer you blend, the smoother and airier your hummus will become.
- Toppings: Go all out when it comes to toppings. You can add extra olive oil, A slice of lemon for visual appeal, and some chopped nuts such as almonds for extra texture.
