Ingredients and substitutions
- Flour – 1 cup of self-rising flour combines 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt.
- Yogurt – Greek yogurt works best but you can use plain yogurt too but the consistency will be more liquid. Use 3/4 cup instead of 1 cup to start with.
- Dried fruit – Raisins, sultanas, or some mixed dried fruit.
- Spice – Ground cinnamon or a mixed spice such as pumpkin spice, my chai spice mix, or Christmas spice mix.
- Sweetener (optional) – Add sugar, brown sugar, or natural sweeteners such as maple syrup, agave syrup, or honey if you prefer a sweeter bun.
- Salt – Don’t skip it or the buns will taste bland.
