Steak Pesto Pizza
Packed with fresh summer flavors, this Steak Pesto Pizza is topped with juicy steak slices, basil pesto, sweet cherry tomatoes, and fresh mint leaves. A must-try for your next gourmet pizza night!

I got an Ooni pizza oven (affiliate link) from Santa last Christmas and ever since, I have been enjoying making all kinds of pizza. My family promoted some of them onto the repeat list including my sausage pizza and this pesto pizza – although some kids pull off the toms!
I personally love this steak pizza because it’s a great way to use up any leftover pesto lurking in the fridge. Freshly cooked steak is delicious but so is some leftover roast meat. A delicious way to reduce food waste in your kitchen!

Ingredients and substitutions

- Steak – Freshly cooked beef or lamb steak both work well for this recipe. Undercook it slightly as it will be cooked in the pizza oven again.
- Pizza dough – I use my cold-fermented pizza dough recipe but any fresh or store-bought pizza dough will work here.
- Pesto – Classic pesto Genovese, my nut-free sunflower seed pesto, or mint pesto all work well.
- Tomatoes – Cherry tomatoes add some color and extra freshness to the pizza but you can use any type of fresh tomatoes including Roma tomatoes for a lower acid option.
- Onion (optional) – Red onion rings add a delicious savory flavor to the pizza.
- Cheese – I use quick-melting shredded mozzarella cheese for that eye-catching cheese-pull but you can use fresh mozzarella or your favorite pizza cheese blend. Feta is a delicious option too.
- Fresh herbs – Fresh mint or basil leaves add extra color and flavor. Substitute with fresh basil leaves if needed.
Step-by-step: pesto pizza

1. Start shaping the pizza dough by gently flattening it with your fingers.

2. Turn and gently pull the dough on a lightly floured surface to further stretch out the dough.

3. Once the dough is shaped, add the pesto in an even layer.

4. Place the halved cherry tomatoes on top.

5. Cut the cooked steak into strips and add them to the pizza base.

6. Top with mozzarella cheese or your preferred pizza blend.

7. Bake in a pizza oven or home oven until the pizza crust is fully cooked.

8. Garnish the pizza with fresh mint or basil, cut it into slices, and serve it immediately.
Top 3 pesto pizza tips
- Even toppings: To ensure an even flavor experience in every slice, distribute the toppings evenly across the pizza base. This way, each bite will have the perfect balance of the toppings.
- Pizza oven steak: Cook your steak in a cast iron pan directly in your pizza oven – but undercook it slightly. The intense heat will create a delicious crust on the steak while it cooks.
- Fresh herbs: Add the fresh herbs after the pizza has been cooked or they will burn.
