I started adding cottage cheese to some meals to up my protein intake – very cliché, I know! While I love it plain with my poached eggs in the morning and use it to make a creamy cottage cheese pasta sauce, I was looking for more ways to add it to a variety of meals.

Packed with fresh flavors and herbs this from-scratch cottage cheese ranch dip is a delicious way to enjoy this trendy cheese and turns it into a super versatile side. No ranch seasoning packet needed!

Similar to my mint tzatziki, I like to add this homemade ranch dip as a side to grilled meats or use it as a sauce for lunch wraps such as my chicken salad wrap.

Ingredients and substitutions

Ingredients laid out to make cottage cheese ranch dip.
  • Cottage cheese – I use full-fat cottage cheese but you can opt for a lighter version as well.
  • Fresh herbs – Dill, parsley, and chives are the key herbs in ranch dressing. Fresh is best but you can use dried herbs instead.
  • Lemon – Fresh lemon juice brightens up the dip and gives it some extra freshness. You can use lime juice as well.
  • Garlic – Again, fresh garlic is best but you can use garlic powder too for convenience.

How to use this from-scratch ranch dip

There seem to be endless ways to enjoy this flavorful cottage cheese dip but here are some of my favorites:

Dip: Enjoy it as protein-packed snack by pairing the dip with veggie sticks like carrots and celery, or your favorite crackers.

Sauce: Serve this whipped cottage cheese dip alongside chicken, beef, or seafood dishes like salmon and shrimp, adding moisture, extra protein, and flavor. It’s creamy texture is delicious on sandwiches and lunch wraps, such as my meatball wrap, for an extra creamy layer and protein.

Dressing: Use it as a versatile salad dressing to enhance pasta salads, like my macaroni shrimp salad, or as a creamy and protein-rich option for lettuce-based or egg salads.

Side: Add a boost of protein to your lunch bowls and veggies. This ranch dip makes a satisfying and nutritious side that complements a variety of ingredients for a balanced meal.
