Why you’ll love this beef fritter recipe

  • Quick and easy: Just like my Italian lamb meatballs, these handy beef fritters are ready in just 25 minutes using a few staple ingredients – perfect for busy weeknights.
  • Budget-friendly: Beef and potato fritters make a frugal but tasty meal as the meat is stretched thanks to the potatoes, making it a filling and frugal appetizer, snack, or main – another great example of saving money by cooking from scratch.
  • Great for meal prep: You can easily make these hearty fritters in advance and reheat them in the oven or microwave before serving. Add them to your weekly meal prep routine now!

Ingredients and substitutions

Ingredients laid out to make beef fritters.
  • Ground beef – Lean grass-fed ground beef (about 85% lean meat) works well but you can also make this recipe with ground pork or lamb for a richer flavor.
  • Potatoes – I recommend Yukon potatoes for this recipe as they hold their shape and give the fritters a golden hue.
  • Egg and flour – The egg and flour help bind the fritter mixture.
  • Onion & garlic – Fresh red onion and garlic can be substituted with onion and garlic powder if needed.
  • Seasoning – Fresh rosemary gives these fritters a rich flavor. You can use dried rosemary as well.

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil for frying

Instructions

1/2 lb ground beef, 1 cup potatoes, 1/2 red onion, 1 garlic clove, 1 egg, 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp fresh rosemary, 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp ground black pepper

    2 tbsp olive oil
  • Place them on a paper towel-lined plate for the excess oil to be absorbed.
  • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce such as my homemade tzatziki.

Notes

Don’t overmix: Overmixing the batter can result in tough fritters.
Let fritters rest: Let the fritter mixture rest for 5 minutes before cooking to help them hold their shape.
Medium heat: Cooking the fritters over medium heat ensures even cooking and prevents burning.
