- Wraps: I use large, soft flour tortillas which are often sold as “wraps”, but whole wheat tortillas or low-carb tortillas are great options as well.
- Ham: Opt for quality ham like deli ham slices or specific types like prosciutto or black forest ham for a richer flavor.
- Cheese: Shredded cheddar cheese offers a sharp taste, while Swiss cheese provides a milder option. Colby jack is a great substitute as well. You can use slices of cheese instead of grated cheese.
- Vegetables: Grated carrots (peeled), crispy lettuce (romaine or iceberg), and thin slices of green onion add extra nutrition, texture, and a fresh flavor to these delicious ham wraps. Sauerkraut is another tasty filling.
- Pickles: I love to add pickled cucumber slices to these wraps but you can also opt for pickle relish, chutney, or a savory jam for that extra sweet tangy flavor.
- Mayonnaise: You can use store-bought or homemade mayonnaise as a creamy spread. Substitute with softened cream cheese or sour cream for a tangier and fresher taste.
- Mustard: Dijon mustard works well with the ham and cheese but you can also choose American mustard. I typically use my homemade Dijonnaise instead of adding mayo and mustard separately.
Variations
- Mexican: If you love Mexican recipes, try adding sliced jalapenos, red pepper, salsa, and add a sprinkle of chili powder for tortilla roll ups with some heat.
- Italian: Swap the mayo and mustard for pesto, add slices of salami with the ham, and use mozzarella cheese. My sunflower seed pesto or arugula lemon pesto make great saucy additions.
- Vegetarian: Skip the deli meat and add more veggies like slices of red bell pepper, cucumber, red onion, pickles, and sprinkle with feta cheese.

- 2 tsp mayo
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 2 lettuce leaves washed, dried
- 1 dill pickles sliced
- 1 carrot grated, medium-size
- 1/4 shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 slices ham large
- 1/2 green onion sliced
Instructions
- Lay out the flour tortilla on a large plate. Spread mayonnaise and Dijon mustard in a horizontal line in the middle of the wrap.2 tsp mayo, 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- Start with lettuce at the bottom, followed by pickles, grated carrots, slices of ham, shredded cheese, and sliced green onion.2 lettuce leaves, 1 dill pickles, 1 carrot, 1/4 shredded cheddar cheese, 2 slices ham, 1/2 green onion
- Fold in the sides and tightly roll up the tortilla, starting from the bottom edge.
- Cut the wrap in half and serve immediately, or wrap it in tin foil, or parchment paper and store it in an airtight container for later.
Notes
- Soften tortillas: Depending on the type of tortilla you’re using you might need to heat them slightly if they are too firm. Warm tortilla for 20-30 seconds wrapped in a damp paper towel in the microwave to make them more pliable and prevent tearing.
- Balance filling: Add the filling in the middle of the tortilla but don’t overfill to ensure a tight roll that stays together.
